Part 07 - the (close) Encounters Project
Original first posting of this article was 11 May 2011
About the ( close ) Encounters project
This is a ongoing *) project that started about 2009 and is called the ( close ) Encounters.
The HDR ( High Dynamic Range ) portrait panorama’s are made out of 63 pictures (minimal 9 exposures per angle, 7 angles so 63 images are used to make a HDR portrait panorama.
That makes taking the image with some thrill — it could be ruined due to the fact that if the people are moving the portrait could fail. That idea makes it fascinating for me to do it, Its always exiting to shoot. Warn the "customers" *) in advance: “we will see in the final image who moved, so do not dare to move!” Until now ( almost ) everyone has listened very good in the portrait shoots from the last years.
More background about this project please see here.
*) this is a non - commercial project

Yes a pity the item can only be seen on Videoland so just visit them in Scheveningen or check out their website

How the project started
For about 10 years passing by their gallery/ workplace….. and though "well that looks like a interesting spot" and in those 10 years never actually went into their Gallery. Then suddenly a article was published in the local newspaper the Scheveningsche Courant on 17 november 2010 with the news that they have the Gallery for 10 years.
First thing thought about after reading the article was "must record a HDR panorama portrait of those two interesting creative people"!
Looked on their website for a e-mail address ( there was also a phone number but I absolutely not like making phone calls ) and found it. Mentioned in the mail the idea of making a HDR panorama portrait without any costs and that they could contact me by mail if they would be interested. To be sure added my mobile phone number and extra mention "please not call me but react by mail". A couple of days later the mobile phone rang it was Nathalie and she mentioned not liked to be behind a computer and write mails she prefers making phone calls..... haha!
We immediately had a great connection so we made appointment to record the HDR panorama portrait on 28 January 2011.
Together with my girlfriend Mireille we were also invited to they 10 years anniversary party.
We had a great night… ( beside the fact that my Canon G12 “died” in the toilet – do not ask how it happend haha). Beneath some images of that party… and the last image is the last image that could be shot right after the toilet “dive” of the camera.

Big thanks to Ron & Nathalie!
